August in Rancho Mirage is the quietest stretch of the year at the front door and the busiest stretch of the year in the back office. Restaurants that need a reservation by 5:30 in February will seat you at 7:15 without a call. Meanwhile, three separate projects are reshaping the map you will be booking against in November.
The wristband promotion pushes both stories together. Between now and August 16, discounts collapse the usual price friction, which is the right window to actually test a room before deciding whether it earns a fall standing reservation. And the openings and closings queued up around it will make this August feel, in hindsight, like the last summer of the old dining rotation.
The wristband math, honestly
Taste of Summer is the city and Chamber's slow-season lift for local restaurants and their nonprofits. The 2026 run is Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, August 16, and the discounts stack meaningfully once you look at them side by side rather than one restaurant at a time.
A few that are worth planning around:
- California Bistro at 69820 CA-111 is running 20% off all a la carte dining with a beverage, Thursday through Sunday. That is the widest daypart of any participating room this year.
- Maracas at 72775 Dinah Shore Drive is offering 15% off the total bill, alcohol excluded.
- Joyce's Sushi at 36101 Bob Hope Drive is offering 20% off entrees, alcohol excluded and not combinable with other promotions.
- Ben & Jerry's at The River is running a $4.95 scoop-and-cone deal on the new Black Raspberry Fudge Chunk, which is the cheapest way to get a kid to walk the promenade with you in August.
- Desert Pearl at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas is offering wristband holders a free cup of coffee with breakfast and a choice of house wine or dessert at lunch and dinner.
Read that list together and the practical takeaway becomes obvious. The wristband is not a coupon book. It is a permission slip to run a personal tasting across four or five kitchens you have been meaning to reevaluate, at a price that removes the sting of a bad decision.
What is actually new since last August
Two of those rooms sit inside the Omni Rancho Las Palmas at 41000 Bob Hope Drive, and both are new since the last Taste of Summer.
Double Date is the resort's Cal-Italian dining room from executive chef Jose Lopez, a member of the Omni family for almost 30 years. The concept was inspired by the Coachella Valley's reputation as the "date capital of the world" and the region's local date farms, which sounds like marketing until you order the sticky date cake, where caramel walnuts and mascarpone accent the dessert in a way that reads as a genuine ingredient conversation rather than a naming exercise. The room is open daily for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m., and live entertainment runs in the plaza five nights a week, Wednesday through Sunday. In August, that plaza is where the residents are. In February, it is where the resort guests are. You want to learn the room now.
Desert Pearl is the Omni's all-day counterpart, named after Pearl McCallum McManus, a Palm Springs trailblazer. The wristband breakfast and lunch offers make it the most efficient way to test both concepts in a single day without triggering a resort bill.
The other new arrival with a real footprint is Bougainvillea Fresh Cuisine, which sits just over the line in Palm Springs at 555 S. Sunrise Way, Suite 108, in the former Guacamoles space. Its dinner menu leans heavily on Italian dishes with fresh pasta, and lunch mixes mid-day favorites with Mexican and Italian food. Not a Taste of Summer participant, but relevant if you are already driving to Palm Springs for a west-valley errand and want a lunch stop that will not appear on any of your neighbors' recommendation lists yet.
Three projects that will redraw the fall map
Here is where August 2026 stops being a slow news month.
On the Mark at Cotino
The Palm Springs specialty grocer On the Mark is opening a second location at the new Cotino town center in Rancho Mirage, more than twice the size of their Palm Springs store, with more sit-down space and plans to sell both produce and meat, targeting fall 2026. This matters for two reasons that a press release will not spell out. First, Cotino, the Storyliving by Disney community off Frank Sinatra and Da Vall, has been landscaped and gated for a while without a real anchor tenant that non-residents had a reason to visit. A grocer-café changes that. Second, if you have been driving to Palm Springs on Saturdays for a specific sandwich, you are about to get an eight-minute version of that trip. Adjust your habits accordingly.
Keke's Breakfast Cafe at Rancho Mirage Marketplace
A Keke's Breakfast Cafe location in Rancho Mirage is expected to open in 2026 at the Rancho Mirage Marketplace, but an exact opening date has not been announced. The chain's format is pancakes, stuffed French toast, omelets, and paninis. What is worth watching is the site itself. Rancho Mirage Marketplace has had a soft breakfast bench for years relative to Palm Desert's Highway 111 corridor, and a full-service breakfast room in that pad reshuffles where the weekend 9 a.m. line forms.
The Capital Grille at 71959 CA-111
This is the biggest single change queued up. Project plans have been filed for a possible Capital Grille outpost in Rancho Mirage at 71959 CA-111, with more than a dozen construction documents filed so far. The build is currently in the construction bidding phase, converting an existing building into a 9,260-square-foot full-service fine dining restaurant with an occupancy limit of 316 and 275 seats. The site itself has provenance: it previously housed Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, which closed in 2021. Darden's communications side is doing what Darden's communications side always does, which is saying real estate teams are constantly looking at sites and declining to comment on specific plans until approvals are in hand. The document trail tells the truer story.
Put those three together and the picture is a fall dining map with a new anchor grocer at Cotino, a new breakfast option at the Marketplace, and a 275-seat steakhouse landing on a Highway 111 pad that has been dark for five years. The rooms you book in November will not be the rooms you booked last November.

The through-line is straightforward. Use the last three weeks of the promotion as a testing window against rooms you will actually want in November, not as a scavenger hunt for the deepest single discount.
The closure worth remembering
One footnote. Fleming's Steakhouse at The River has permanently closed after opening in November 2001, when the shopping area first debuted. That is the fine-dining seat count that The Capital Grille project would functionally replace, on a different pad, a mile east. August in Rancho Mirage rewards the resident who treats slow season as reconnaissance. The wristband makes the reconnaissance cheap. The construction filings make it necessary.
